The EU Does Irony!

I am sure that the EU gets the irony of its criticism of Le Pen for possible dodgy finances, given that the EU itself doesn't have a set of accounts that the auditors are prepared to sign off!

Merkel's Doubts About Ease of Brexit

Merkel told the Bundestag this morning that Britain has illusions about the ease of Brexit.

As per Business Insider UK:
"I have to put it in such clear terms because, unfortunately, I have the feeling that some in Britain still have illusions, but that would be a waste of time.

We can only have an agreement on the future relationship with Britain when all questions about its exit have been cleared up satisfactorily. A third state, and that's what Britain will be, cannot and will not have at its disposal the same rights ... as members of the European Union."
To her credit, she also noted that it would not be easy for the EU either:
"The exit negotiations will definitely demand a great deal of the European Union as well as Britain itself in the two years. I think that is completely beyond doubt."
It will be a long two years. However, if people keep their heads the outcome can be satisfactory for both Britain and the EU.

Britain's Euro17BN Brexit Fee

The Telegraph reports that Britain will have to pay into the EU budget up until 2020 if it wants Europe to grant the UK reasonable terms on a Brexit transition deal.

The "Brexit fee" is estimated to be around Eruo17BN.

All very fine and dandy if it guarantees a "respectable" deal, and if there are some audited accounts on which to base that Brexit fee!

Support For Gibraltar Solid As The Rock

Boris Johnson has stood by Gibraltar, saying:
"Gibraltar is not for sale.

Gibraltar cannot be traded.

Gibraltar will not be bargained away."

EU's Response To Brexit

The EU's response to Brexit can be read here:

Draft guidelines following the United Kingdom's notification under Article  50

Interestingly they allow for parallel negotiations of both Brexit and future trade arrangements (once progress has been made on Brexit negotiations).
